How to Write Emails that Always Get Opened

Updated on: Dec 20, 2016
Here’s today’s question:

Getting people to open emails is all about the subject lines. Now, there are all kinds of tricks you can use to get your readers to click. “You won’t believe what happened next!” Or, “Crazy!”

Let’s get real though. That gets old after a while.

Three Simple Tips to Improve Your Email Rates

We have sent millions of emails and people love them. Here are a couple of suggestions for you:

  1. Make it personal. It’s important to build a relationship. You can’t test your way into a relationship offline, like at a bar with your husband or wife. Why would you try to do that in email? Make it personal and be real.
  2. Make it intriguing or offer a benefit. Curiosity’s a natural human instinct. If we see something surprising or interesting, we want to check it out. And if you’re telling me about a benefit, like “Earn more money,” “Lose weight,” or “Look more attractive,” I want to click that. I want to know more.
  3. Brainstorm multiple subject lines. Our team always writes at least three different subject lines. Sometimes, none of them end up being good, so they dig deeper and they find better ones.
